Landscaping Vehicle Dimensions, Capabilities & Features

Exact dimensions for all commercial vehicles will vary by vehicle type, make, body style, and year. The most popular vehicles for landscaping are crew cab and double cab trucks.

Crew Cab Trucks
This type of landscaping vehicle typically features 2-4 full doors and two rows of seats for up to five to six passengers. Popular crew cab options include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Ford F-150, Ford F-250, RAM 2500, and the Chevrolet Colorado Work Truck.

Double Cab Trucks
This is a good middle-of-the-road option — bigger than an extended cab but smaller than a crew cab. There are typically two rows of seats. Choose from the GMC Sierra 1500, Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and more.

Landscaping Vehicle FAQs

Q: How many miles can a cargo van last?
A:It depends on the make and model. With proper maintenance, cargo vans can last anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 miles.

Q: How many miles can a truck last?
A:Some trucks can reach 200,000 miles (or more) depending on the make, model, and proper maintenance.

Q: What is the best type of used cargo van or truck for landscaping?
A:We offer all makes and models of commercial vehicles, but we find that crew cab and double cab trucks are good fits for landscaping. But we’re happy to help you find the right vehicle for your business needs, so give us a call today to discuss your specific situation.

Q: What are the most popular vans or trucks for landscaping?
A:The exterior dimensions of most of our vans are around 230” long, 100” high, and 80” wide with a two-person passenger capacity. Our trucks are around 230-250” long, 75-80” high, and approx. 80 to 93” wide. When you shop for cargo vans and trucks on our online platform, you’ll find the exact dimensions for every vehicle, including the interior, exterior, and cargo area.

Q: How much weight can your trucks and vans carry?
A:It depends on the make and model. You want to look for a few numbers:
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: This refers to the maximum legal operating weight of a vehicle and includes all components, such as the chassis, any aftermarket body or equipment, drivers/occupants, fuel and fluids, and total payload weight excluding any trailers.

  • Gross Combined Weight Rating: This is the maximum legal combined operating weight of a vehicle with a trailer, as specified by the OEM and the federal government.

  • Trailer Tongue Weight: The optimal trailer tongue weight we typically recommend is between 10-15% and is based on the loaded trailer weight. Too low of a tongue weight, or having too much of the payload weight in the rear of the trailer, could cause unstable driving conditions. Too much trailer tongue weight can cause the rear of the truck to sag and possibly damage and break the receiver hitch.

Q: What should I look for in a used commercial vehicle?
A:Mileage is certainly an important factor, and the amount of space you need will determine whether you’re looking at a cargo van or truck (and more specifically a crew, double, or extended cab truck).

Fuel type (diesel, flex fuel, or gasoline) is also a consideration, as well as body style, certain must-have or safety features, how the vehicle handles, and whether the interior is in good shape. Walk around the vehicle and take a look. You’ll want to make sure the vehicle has passed a proper maintenance inspection and does not show any signs of rust.

When you take the vehicle for a test drive, make sure it’s comfortable and a good fit for what you’re looking for.

Q: What are the most popular types of upfits for landscaping vehicles?
A: Ladder racks, tool racks, hitch accessories, lift gates, ramps, branding and decals, partitions, drawer units, and shelving modules are some popular upfitting options for landscaping professionals.

Q: How much does a used cargo van or truck cost?
A: The cost will depend on the make, model, and mileage. The bulk of our cargo van inventory falls within the $25,000 to $35,000 price range, but there are options below $25,000 and above $35,000. When it comes to pre-owned trucks, expect to pay anywhere from $20,000 to $55,000. The bulk of our pre-owned trucks range from $30,000 to $50,000.
